his is the new EU standard, it covers portable Fire extinguishers and replaces the former BS 5423:1987, which was withdrawn in 1997. Until then the UK had a unique colour coding system to identify the various Fire Extinguishers. BS EN3 requires that at least 95% of the extinguishers body MUST be coloured red, allowing only 5% colour coded zones on the extinguisher.
Water Extinguishers
Water extinguishers are suitable for Class A Fires caused by the combustion of burning materials such as Paper, Wood and Textiles to name but a few. They are available in 3, 6, and 9 Litre formats. These extinguishers are just red with no additional coloured strips.
Foam Extinguishers
Foam extinguishers are ideal for both A & B Class Fire Risks. AFFF or Aqueous Film Forming Foam is particularly suited to Class B Fires caused by the combustion of flammable liquids such as Petrol, Oils and Paints to name but a few. These are available in 2, 6 or 9 Litre formats. These have a cream strip located on the extinguisher.
CO2 Extinguishers
Carbon Dioxide extinguishers are especially suitable for office use on electrical equipment, creating minimum secondary damage. They can also be used on Class B Fire risks caused by the combustion of flammable liquids such as Petrol, Oils, Paints to name but a few. They available in either 2 or 5 Kilogram formats and are represented by a black strip on the extinguisher.
Powder Extinguishers
Powder extinguishers are multipurpose, suitable for Mixed Fire risk environments specially suited to Class B Fires caused by combustion of flammable liquids such as Petrol, Oils, Paints to name but a few as well as Class C Fires caused by Flammable Gases such as Methane, Propane, Butane to name but a few. These are available in 1, 2, 4, 6 & 9 Kilogram formats and are represented by a blue strip on the extinguisher.
Wet Chemical Extinguishers
These are specifically made for Class F fires so can be mainly found in kitchen areas with a Deep Fat fryer. They come in 6 & 9 Litre formats and are represented by a yellow strip found on the extinguisher.
All new extinguishers come with a FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE, and are Kitemarked to the existing 135 EN3 EU Standard for the manufacture of fire extinguisheers.
All service work will be carried out by BAFE approved engineers, in accordance with BS 5306 Part 3 and where indicated will be recharged in accordance with BS 6643 Part 1.
All prices quoted are excluding V.A.T which will be added at the applicable rate upon invoice.
All prices quoted are fixed for two years, and the contract can be terminated at anytime with no penalty fee to pay.
